# IPMI (Generalized)

# IPMI Setup for Asus Workstation Boards

## Install dependencies

IPMITools CLI

```sh
apt install ipmitool freeipmi-tools
```

### Notes

Most Commands require a `<channel>`. Use Default `1` for most commands.

## Configure Network

Print current Configuration

```sh
ipmitool lan print 1
```

> `1` references the IPMI Channel. For most Boards, there is only one (1)

Configure IP Source

```sh
ipmitool lan set 1 ipsrc static
```

Configure IP Address

```sh
ipmitool lan set 1 ipaddr <ip>
```

Configure Subnet Mask

```sh
ipmitool lan set 1 netmask <mask>
```

Configure Default Gateway

```sh
ipmitool lan set 1 defgw <gateway>
```

## Configure Users

List Users

```sh
ipmitool user list 1
```

This should produce a result like this

```sh
root@computer:/usr/sbin# ipmitool user list 1
ID  Name             Callin  Link Auth  IPMI Msg   Channel Priv Limit
1                    false   false      false      NO ACCESS
2   admin            false   false      true       ADMINISTRATOR
3   Administrator    true    true       true       ADMINISTRATOR
4                    true    false      false      NO ACCESS
```

- Number of Users is limited by the printed slots (usually 15 - 16-1 = 4 Bit ID)
- `Callin` allows the User access via the serial console
- `Link Auth` forces additional ppp-authentication (chap/pap)

Set Admin password

```sh
ipmitool user set password 3 <password>
```
